Cumbum is a sleepy town famous for its rich and abundant farms and the freshest fruits and vegetables. Located 492 kilometers from Chennai, the cumbum grape farm is gaining attention year by year for its charming atmosphere and the quality of grapes. Perched between Varusanadu hills, Kodaikanal, and Thekkady hills, this place with acres and acres of grapes would literally blow your mind. The golden land of Cumbum is most ideal for farming with the golden sunlight and fertile soil has been cultivated with paddy, vegetables, pomegranate and mango farms, and so on. It is a common thing to buy fruits and vegetables from the market of Cumbum and Theni. You can easily visit these beautiful farms in a jeep ride from Periyar Tiger Reserve. With a visit that charges no entry fees and special staff to explain more about the irrigation and cultivation of grapes, Cumbum grape farm showers its love to the visitors. Plucking grapes from these beautiful bunches is highly discouraged but there a shop nearby from where you can purchase the original grape wine and juice. Cumbum grape farm is just 20 kilometers from Hills and Hues, the best boutique resort in Kerala. With just a drive of 40 minutes, you will reach this amazing place.
You can ideally visit the farm from January to March. The slightly humid climate and moderate heat would be the best to stroll under this sea of violet and green grapes. Yet the best recommended time is during March when the temperature ranges from 63 degrees Fahrenheit to 106 degrees Fahrenheit.
You can take a train to Rajapalayam station, which is located at a distance of 44 kilometers. The nearest airport is Madurai airport at a distance of 127 kilometers. Take a cab to Cumbum from there. If you are coming by road, you will reach here on driving 550 kilometers from Chennai and 115 kilometers from Madhurai. From Thekkady, you can take a jeep or car and reach here in 40 minutes (24 kilometers). Other than the farm, there are many things to see in Cumbum. The Kambaya Perumal temple is a major attraction for pilgrims of the south. The suruli waterfalls, which is at a distance of 10 kilometers from Cumbum is a visual treat of nature with the hustle of the forest, the misty climate, and the chirping of birds especially if you visit it visit before 8 AM or after 4pm. Water flows like a silver curtain into a pool from a height of 150 feet. You can enjoy the winding roads through the dense forest on the way to Periyar Tiger reserve from the farm. The Kailasanatha Cave temple, where idols are installed in 18 different caves near Suruli falls would also be a spiritual experience. You can also visit Vaigai dam, Munnar, Megamalai, etc on the way to Cumbum.
